I am responsible for my career choices: Aftab Shivdasani

Actor Aftab Shivdasani, who made a promising debut at the age of 19 with Mast, is yet to taste a resounding success in his career but he says he does not blame anyone for his choice of films.

"My journey has had lots of ups and downs. I have received accolades, criticisms. I don't blame anyone for my failure. I take responsibly for my career decisions. This industry works like that, there are risks. Having said that, I am grateful to God for everything that has come my way so far," Aftab told PTI.

The 34-year-old started as a child artiste in commercials and as well as films like Mr India, Shahenshah, ChaalBaaz and Insaniyat. After Mast, he went on to star in films like Kasoor, Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai, Awara Paagal Deewana, Hungama, Footpath, Masti, Koi Aap Sa.

Aftab went low key for two years by not taking up many film assignments. When asked if it was a conscious decision to stay away from the big screen, the actor said, "I did not decide to stay away from films. I was not happy with the kind of offers that were coming my way. I want to do good work.

"I waited for two years to get the right kind of role because I did not want to make any hasty decision. I want to do commercial films. I want to work with big filmmakers. I don't want to do ten films a year. In the mean time, I got the opportunity to work on myself," he added.

The actor, who was last seen in Bin Bulaye Baraati, is ready for the release of his upcoming film- Vikram Bhatt's production 1920: Evil Returns. The film directed by Bhushan Patel is a sequel to 2008 film 1920 and also stars Tia Bajpai and Sagar Saikia in the lead roles.

"I was not at all apprehensive about working in the sequel of '1920'. The only common element between the first film and the second is the title, other than that everything is new, from characters, to look, to story. The film has been shot in Malmoe, which is southernmost province of Sweden. This is the first Indian film that has been shot in Sweden," he said.

"The film has been shot in real locations there but the story is based in an Indian hill station. It is a period film based in the year 1920," he added. "1920: Evil Returns" will hit theatres on November 2. The actor is currently in Vadodara shooting for Grand Masti directed by Indra Kumar, which is a sequel to the 2004 hit, Masti. The film will hit theatres next year.

Aftab Shivdasani to get married next year

Aftab Shivdasani, who has been unlucky in love, is set to marry Britain-born Indian model Nin Dusanj next year.

Apparently Aftab's wedding is being planned in early 2013. The actor admits he's found love just when he needed it the most.

"Yes, we will get married. Nin was Hong Kong based. She has now relocated to India. She is a Punjabi girl, born and raised in London. But she's been working in Hong Kong for the past six years," said Aftab.

The 34-year-old had stopped signing films in 2010, took a year off to work on his physique and his performing abilities as an actor. He then came back to his friend and director Vikram Bhatt who signed him for 1920: Evil Returns that has just hit the screens.

The actor admits it's been a tough phase in his life.

"I stopped signing films. There was no point in doing films I wasn't happy with. I only signed Vikram Bhatt's 1920: Evil Returns and Indra Kumar's Grand Masti, sequel to Masti," he said.

Masti sequel is raunchier, more suggestive and risque than the first film, says the actor.

"It has to be! There have been so many spinoffs since Masti was released in 2004. I can't say I'm comfortable with all the double-meanings and suggestive dialogues, but it is what the audience wants. Being an actor it's my job to do and say things I wouldn't in real life," said Aftab.

Bhatt recently spoke to Aftab's new lady-love and was bowled over by her devotion to the actor.

"If Aftab has been unlucky in his career, he has been even unluckier in love," said Bhatt and added: "Yes,I did speak to Aftab's girlfriend. I can tell you this much, it's a very rare kind of love that they share. Aftab has been singularly unfortunate in love. He has been used and discarded by women."

"The thing about Nin is, she is not concerned with what he does, or what his stardom quotient is... When I spoke to her, I could feel this unconditional love that she has for Aftab. I think my friend has found his true love," he added.

Bhatt said that emotionally and professionally, Aftab had hit a low, but he has "born-again as an actor and as a human being. His life has come together. He's finally found the perfect partner and is hopefully en route to a second lease in his career...I'm happy."

Nothing excited me: Aftab Shivdasani

Aftab Shivdasani has a reason for doing films few and far between in recent times. He says he didn't get offers which excited him enough as an actor.

"I wasn't really busy, but the offers that came my way were not much exciting. I decided not to work instead of just doing anything. I decided to wait and spend time with myself. The break happened by chance. It was not something I had planned, but I welcomed it," Aftab told IANS.

Aftab made his acting debut with 1999 film Mast. With around 40 films to his credit, he started fading away from the screen sometime back. He says he took a break from films because the offers he got were not exciting enough.

Before Mast, Aftab had featured as a child artist in commercials and as well as films like Mr India, Shahenshah, ChaalBaaz and Insaniyat.

Later, he was seen in films like Kasoor, Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai, Awara Paagal Deewana, Hungama, Footpath, Masti and Koi Aap Sa. In 2011, he featured in Bin Bulaye Baraati, and his 1920 - Evil Returns released Nov 2.

Directed by Bhushan Patel, the film is franchise of 2008 release 1920 and also stars Tia Bajpai and Sagar Saikia in the lead roles.

Talking about his experience of working in a horror film, he said: "It is not much different from the usual. It is not as if people are shouting and going crazy. It is an intense love story with an underbelly of horror, that is how I look at it."

But the actor is not looking for any particular genre of films.

"I am looking for something commercial and entertaining, but nothing particular. I just want it to excite me as an actor," said Aftab.

Grand Masti bigger, better, badder: Aftab Shivdasani

Actor Aftab Shivdasani is busy shooting for Grand Masti, a sequel to 2004 film Masti and says that the new film will be bigger and better than the original one.

"We all are really happy that the franchise of Masti is taken ahead with Grand Masti. Obviously it's going to be bigger, better and badder. The film is yet to complete and we all are having fun shooting for it," said Aftab.

"This film has nothing to do with original 'Masti'. It's the same set up with a different story," he added.

Directed by Indra Kumar, Masti featured Vivek, Riteish and Aftab as three friends who decide to cheat on their wives, played by Amrita Rao, Genelia D'Souza and Tara Sharma respectively.

But for Grand Masti Maryam Zakaria, Kainaat Arora, Bruna Abdullah and Sonali Kulkarni will join them in the cast. Ajay Devgn will also feature in it.

"The film demanded fresh faces. There is more fun, more masti and more gags," Aftab added.

Grand Masti is slated for 2013 release. источник
